How HBL PersonalLoan works
HBL PersonalLoan is an unsecured loan for salaried people whose salary comes into an HBL account. You borrow a fixed amount, and HBL takes an equal installment from your salary account every month. The markup rate is fixed when the loan is approved and does not change for the whole term, even if KIBOR moves.
Existing customers can apply in the HBL Mobile App without submitting papers, and HBL says a decision usually takes about 2 days. At a branch it takes 2 to 5 working days after all documents are in. Pensioners can also apply under separate terms. Once you have repaid for 12 months, you can ask for an additional amount.
HBL personal loan markup in 2026
HBL sets the rate by customer category, and its key fact statement for 2026 shows 35.99% a year. Customers with strong salaries and a long history with HBL can be offered less, which is why our rate sheet uses 23% as a typical figure for better profiles. The calculator starts at 35.99% so that you see the cost you might actually face. Switch to the lower rate, or type the rate HBL offers you, to compare.
At these rates a personal loan is expensive. On Rs 5 lakh over 3 years at 35.99%, you would repay about Rs 3.24 lakh in markup alone. At 23% the markup is about Rs 1.97 lakh. Borrow the smallest amount you need and choose the shortest term you can manage.
All the charges, not just the markup
The processing fee is Rs 6,000 or 1.40% of the loan, whichever is higher, plus FED. On a loan of Rs 5 lakh that is Rs 7,000 plus FED. Women who hold an HBL account get half off the processing fee.
If you want to pay the loan off early, HBL charges 7% of the outstanding principal plus FED. That is a large charge, so if you expect a bonus soon, it can make more sense to borrow less now than to settle early later. Late installments cost Rs 1,250 plus FED each and are reported on your credit report, which can make future loans harder to get.
If a borrower dies, the outstanding amount is covered by the insurer on HBL's panel, so the family is not left with the debt.
Who is eligible
HBL PersonalLoan is mainly for salaried people with their salary paid into HBL. Comparison sites that checked HBL's terms in October 2026 report a minimum salary of Rs 35,000 a month, a minimum age of 21 and a maximum age of 61 when the loan ends. HBL's own page says eligibility depends on its criteria, so confirm in the app or at a branch.
Under SBP rules your total monthly loan payments, including credit cards and any car loan, should stay within 40% of your income. The calculator shows the salary you would need for the installment you choose.
Before you apply
- Check your credit report for any old unpaid dues, because a negative eCIB record is the most common reason for rejection
- Pay down credit card balances so your total loan payments fit within 40% of income
- Compare HBL with a credit card installment plan or another bank, using our personal loan calculator
- Keep the term as short as you can afford to cut the total markup
Worked example
Here is what a Rs 5 lakh loan over 3 years at the key fact statement rate looks like at 35.99% a year, using the same maths as the calculator above.
| Loan amount | Rs 500,000 |
|---|---|
| Monthly installment | Rs 22,899 for 36 months |
| Total markup | Rs 324,366 |
| Processing fee (plus FED) | Rs 7,000 |
| Salary needed (40% rule) | Rs 57,248 a month |
Over the full term you would pay Rs 824,366 in total, of which Rs 324,366 is markup.
