Petrol in Pakistan costs Rs 382.02 a litre from 21 October 2026. A year ago, on 16 October 2025, it was Rs 263.02. That is a rise of Rs 119 a litre, or about 45% in twelve months, according to the official price history.
October has brought a few small cuts, which is welcome. But looking at the whole year, there are clear warning signs that every car and bike owner should understand before planning a budget or a new vehicle loan.
1. Prices have climbed back up since the summer
On 1 July 2026 petrol was Rs 299.81. By 1 October it was Rs 387.40. That is a jump of about 29% in just three months, after the government had brought prices down following the spring spike.
2. We have already seen a record high this year
In early April 2026 petrol touched Rs 458.41 a litre, the highest price Pakistan has ever paid, when world oil prices rose sharply. It came down within days, but it showed how quickly prices can move when global markets are shaken.
3. The country’s fuel import bill is above the IMF estimate
Pakistan spent $16.86 billion on oil imports in the year to June 2026, about $1.58 billion more than the IMF had projected, mainly because of tensions in the Middle East (ProPakistani). A bigger import bill puts pressure on the rupee, and a weaker rupee makes fuel more expensive again.
4. Prices now change every few days
In October alone, petrol was revised on several separate days, with small cuts and rises (PakWheels). For families on a fixed salary, this makes it harder to plan a monthly fuel budget.
5. Taxes on fuel may rise further
A carbon levy of Rs 2.50 a litre was added last year, and a plan to double it to Rs 5 a litre was reported ahead of the 2026 to 27 budget (ProPakistani). Any increase in levies is passed straight to the pump price.
6. Fuel is pushing up everything else
Transport costs were up 27.4% in September compared with a year earlier, and overall inflation was 10.3% (Profit). When inflation stays high, the State Bank is less likely to cut interest rates, and that keeps car and bike loan installments high too. We explain the link in what happens to your installment when SBP changes rates.
What this means for your monthly budget
Here is the monthly fuel cost a year ago and today, using normal city mileage:
| Vehicle and daily distance | October 2025 (Rs 263.02) | October 2026 (Rs 382.02) | Extra each month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suzuki Alto, 40 km a day | Rs 17,500 | Rs 25,500 | Rs 8,000 |
| Honda City 1.2, 40 km a day | Rs 24,300 | Rs 35,300 | Rs 11,000 |
| Honda CD 70, 30 km a day | Rs 4,300 | Rs 6,300 | Rs 2,000 |

Planning a car or bike on installments?
Do not judge a car only by its installment. Add at least Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000 a month for petrol on a small or mid size car, and leave room for prices to rise again. A simple rule is to keep the installment plus fuel under about a third of your take home pay.

Simple ways to protect yourself
- Keep tyres at the right pressure and service the car on time.
- Share rides to work two or three days a week.
- Use a bike for short daily trips and the car for family trips.
- Set a fixed monthly fuel budget and track it for one month.
- If you are buying a new vehicle, choose a smaller engine than you first planned.
Petrol prices will keep moving with world oil prices and the rupee. You cannot control that, but you can make sure your loan and your fuel bill still fit your salary if prices climb again.
