Car and bike loans in Pakistan
Car financing is at the highest level in Pakistan’s history. In September 2026 it rose 3.49% in a single month, from Rs 393.4 billion in August to Rs 407.12 billion.
The interesting part is what happened to sales at the same time. Car sales fell to 10,939 units in September 2026, down 9.8% on September 2025 and 20.3% on August. Motorcycle and three wheeler sales went the other way, up 27.4% to 202,502 units, with Honda alone selling 167,100 (TechJuice, PAMA data).
More money is being borrowed per car even as fewer cars are sold. Higher car prices mean each loan is larger, and with petrol above Rs 380 a litre many families are moving to motorcycles.

Home loans in Pakistan
Home financing is growing fast from a very small base. Bank lending for house building reached Rs 365.44 billion in September 2026, up 71.88% in a year. Even so, housing finance is only 0.3% of Pakistan’s GDP and 1.48% of all bank lending (ProPakistani).
The government’s Mera Ghar Mera Ashiana scheme, which offers 5% financing for the first ten years, shows how strong the demand is. By 30 April 2026:
| Mera Ghar Mera Ashiana | Figure |
|---|---|
| Applications received | 25,304 |
| Applications approved | 8,990 (Rs 37.15 billion) |
| Applications paid out | 1,845 (Rs 5.07 billion) |
| Still being processed | 13,792 |
Only about one in five approved applicants had received money by that date. You can work out your own installment with our Mera Ghar Mera Ashiana calculator.
The cost of borrowing in Pakistan
Most Pakistani car, home and personal loans are priced at KIBOR plus a bank margin, and KIBOR follows the State Bank’s policy rate.
- Policy rate: 11.5% since 27 April 2026, after a 1% rise linked to higher oil prices (Dawn). It was 22% at its peak in 2023.
- Inflation: 10.3% in September 2026, with transport costs up 27.4% in a year.
- Typical loan rates: car loans around 14% to 16%, personal loans around 21% to 25% a year.
When inflation is close to the policy rate, savers earn little after inflation and borrowers face the risk of higher rates. Our guide on what happens to your installment when SBP changes rates shows the effect with examples.
