Half the delay in most loan applications has nothing to do with the bank’s decision. It comes from a missing document, a salary slip that is too old, or a bank statement that does not show the salary clearly. Every trip back to the branch adds days.
This checklist pulls together what the major banks in Pakistan ask for, grouped by the kind of applicant you are. Get these ready before you visit and the process becomes much faster.
Documents almost every bank asks for
Whatever the loan and whoever you are, start with these:
- Your CNIC copy, front and back, with the original available to show
- The bank’s application form, filled in and signed
- Two recent passport size photographs
- A signed consent form for the bank to check your credit record (eCIB)
- Your nominee’s CNIC copy, if the bank asks for a nominee
If you are salaried
- Your latest salary slips, usually the last three months. Some banks, like Meezan, want the latest slip to be less than 60 days old.
- An employment letter on company letterhead that states your joining date, designation and current salary
- Bank statements for the last six to twelve months, showing your salary being credited every month
- An account maintenance certificate from your bank, if your salary account is with a different bank
- A direct debit authority form, so installments are deducted automatically
If you run a business or are self employed
- Your NTN certificate
- Income tax returns for the last two years
- Business registration documents, such as a partnership deed, proprietorship certificate, or memorandum and articles for a company
- Personal and business bank statements for the last twelve months
- Proof of business address, such as a utility bill or rent agreement
- Audited financial statements for the last two years, if you have them
Banks often send someone to verify the business address, and some home loan products require an income estimate by the bank’s own approved panel.
If you are an overseas Pakistani
- Your CNIC or NICOP
- Salary slips and bank statements from your country of work, often attested
- Your employment contract or letter
- A Roshan Digital Account, which several banks use for overseas Pakistanis’ home finance and car finance
- Details of a local contact or attorney in Pakistan, if you will not be present for every step
JS Bank’s Roshan Apna Ghar, for example, is designed for both residents and overseas Pakistanis and can finance up to 85 percent of a property’s value for overseas applicants.
Extra documents for a home loan
- Property papers: registered sale deed, allotment letter or transfer letter
- A no objection certificate (NOC) from the housing society or builder, for apartments and society plots
- A property valuation report, done by the bank’s approved valuer, which you pay for
- A legal opinion on the property title, done by the bank’s approved lawyer, which you also pay for
These are where home loans most often get delayed. Ask the seller early for complete, clean ownership papers.
Extra documents for a car or bike loan
- A quotation or proforma invoice from an authorised dealer, showing the exact model and price
- A copy of your driving licence
- A takaful or insurance form, as most banks arrange the first year’s cover
Extra documents for a personal loan
Personal loans usually need the shortest list. For a salaried person, HBL for example asks for a CNIC copy, the application form, the last three months’ salary slips, an employment letter, six months of bank statements, the eCIB consent form and two photographs.
Five small things that save a lot of time
- Make sure your name is spelled the same way on every document as it is on your CNIC.
- Get your employment letter signed and stamped, with a date on it.
- Print bank statements directly from the bank or get them stamped at the branch.
- Keep photocopies of everything, and keep originals ready in case the bank wants to see them.
- Ask the branch for its own checklist on your first visit, because individual branches sometimes ask for one or two extra items.
Know your numbers before you visit
Documents are only half of the preparation. The other half is knowing roughly how much the bank will lend you and what your installment will be. Our calculators for home, car, bike and personal loans show each bank’s document list alongside your installment, so you can walk in prepared.
If you are not sure how much you can borrow yet, start with our guide on how much salary you need for a loan.
Document requirements were checked against banks’ published lists in September 2026. Banks update these from time to time, so confirm the final list with your branch.
