Getting to college on time is hard when buses are full and rickshaws cost Rs 200 a day. A bike fixes that, but most students have no salary, no credit history and no bank account that a lender will look at. The good news is that a bike for students in Pakistan is possible in 2026. Here are five real ways to get one, with the rules and the real costs.
1. Government bike schemes for students
Provincial governments have run bike schemes for students, and more are coming.
Punjab. In 2024 the Punjab government offered 20,000 bikes to students on interest free installments. The down payment was cut to Rs 25,000, petrol bike installments were set under Rs 5,000 a month, and in villages 70% of the quota went to male students and 30% to female students. In July 2026 Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced 100,000 free electric bikes for students. The rules, eligibility and application dates for this new round have not been published yet.
Sindh. The Sindh government gives free pink electric scooters to female students and working women who live in Sindh. You need a valid driving licence, winners are chosen by public ballot, and they must pass a road safety test. Registration, insurance, a helmet and training are included, but you cannot sell the scooter for seven years. Applications are taken on the website of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority.
Watch out for fake sites. Dozens of websites with names like “e bike scheme 2026” copy the government logo and ask for a registration fee. Real applications only go through official portals that end in .gov.pk and through the Chief Minister’s and transport department’s official pages. A government scheme never asks you to pay to register.
2. Zero markup installments from Bank of Punjab
If someone in your family has a Bank of Punjab credit card, the BOP Honda installment plan is the cheapest way to buy on installments. The 3 and 6 month plans have 0% markup and no processing fee.
| Plan for a Honda CD 70 (Rs 159,900) | Monthly | Total paid |
|---|---|---|
| 6 months, 0% markup | Rs 26,650 | Rs 159,900 |
| 12 months | Rs 16,523 | Rs 198,276 |
| 48 months | Rs 6,529 | Rs 313,392 |
The longer plans add 24% of the price for every year, so a 4 year plan almost doubles the cost. If the family can manage the 6 month plan, take it. For the latest prices of every model, see our Honda CD 70 price history and the CD 70 and CG 125 installment guide.
3. Let a parent be the borrower
Banks such as Meezan (Bike Ijarah), Bank Alfalah and Bank of Punjab finance bikes, but they lend against a steady income. Most ask for an age of 21 or more and salary slips or bank statements, which students do not have. The legal and simple way around this is for a parent or older sibling with an income to apply in their own name, while you ride the bike.
Before applying, check that the installment fits the earner’s budget. A good rule is to keep a bike installment under about a quarter of monthly income. Our bike loan calculator shows the installment from each bank and the salary needed. For families without bank paperwork, microfinance lenders like Kashf Foundation also finance bikes, at higher rates of around 23.5% a year on our rate sheet.
4. Buy a good used bike
A two or three year old CD 70 or CG 125 often costs well below a new one, and parts are cheap everywhere. To buy safely:
- Check the registration on your province’s Excise and Taxation online vehicle verification service.
- Match the engine and chassis numbers with the registration book.
- Get the transfer done in your parent’s name, or your own once you are 18.
- Never pay in full before the original file and documents are in your hands.
5. Save for it with a simple plan
If you earn from tuition, freelancing or a part time job, saving is the cheapest route because you pay no markup. Rs 5,000 a month for 32 months covers a new CD 70 at today’s price. Many families also join a committee, the classic Pakistani rotating savings group, and take their turn when the bike is needed. Our guide on how to save money from your salary has a simple monthly plan.
Petrol or electric?
Running cost matters as much as price. A CD 70 gives roughly 55 km a litre, so 1,000 km a month at about Rs 379 a litre costs close to Rs 6,900 in petrol. Electric bikes cost far less per kilometre, but range, charging at home and battery replacement need planning. Read our electric bike loan guide and follow the petrol price history before you decide.
Rules every student rider must follow
- You must be at least 18 to get a motorcycle driving licence in Pakistan. Start with a learner permit.
- Wear a helmet. Traffic police in all big cities fine riders without one.
- Keep the registration book and licence with you at all times.
- Insure the bike against theft. Some bank and government plans include it.
